Gardening for Idiots

Do they make a book for people who are completely clueless about growing their own food? I am determined to have at least TWO vegetables growing in my yard this year. I've heard these raised boxed gardens cut down on the weeding (woo hoo-right up my alley! except who will build these for me?). I just want to have a few things planted--nothing too big or overwhelming since I barely have time to brush my teeth these days...but I want something. Anyways, I have no idea where to begin! And what grows well in my area? When do I start (hopefully it's not too late already, but I do still have snow cover on the ground). The only thing I do know is that tomatoes don't do well here (heard it from my neighbor). Anyways, if you know of a good website or blog for beginners, I'd love a comment about it. Thanks!

A good place to go is the children's area of your public library. Those authors don't assume that you know anything and break it down simply. As far as what will work locally, I'd visit a nursery and ask LOTS of questions. I want to do the same thing this year, but I don't know how I'll work that out with a newborn coming in May (that's the month to plant here).

I don't know if it is what you're looking for, but a little blog I sometimes look at is:

They have some beginner stuff, but also a lot of advanced lingo that doesn't make any sense to me! :) I have been meaning to learn how to garden one of these days, too. I think I'm going to wait until we move this summer to start anything, though. I'm interested to see what you do! Good luck!

I noticed that people at the plant/flower shops know alot about the local area.. *usually.

Like at home depot, if you get someone knowledgable, and I think you can buy those boxes pre-made..

easy for you and roob :)

oh ya..guess what.. you're not going to believe..

Brian and I found that awesome cranium game in colorado for $11.00

we're so excited :)

I love it! A garden's a wonderful idea. I think you'd do good with root veggies: squash, potatoes, whatever you see at the local farmer's market. Have fun.
