Car Seat Dilemma

Well, I think I have finally found an infant carrier that I like! (been looking forever) The green & gray one will carry a baby up to 22 lbs, and the orange & gray one will go up to 30 lbs. However, the green one is at least 2 to 3 pounds LIGHTER than the orange one. Hmm. Decisions. Yes, Captain Indecisivo is here. First of all, any of you moms/nannies/big sisters, etc. know anything about the Chicco brand? I like the looks of their stuff--it's pretty cute. And these cannot get ANY easier to install in your car. The babiesrus person showed me and she did it in like 5 seconds. Awesome. I like the green one the best (for the color combo), but the orange is ok, too. Just a bit more showy. I guess I'm trying to decide if it's worth it to get the orange one since I can keep the baby in it that entire first year. But, since it is a heavier carrier, at some point I'll have to actually take the baby out of the carseat and carry him in my arms--but isn't that what you do at some point anyways? Like when they "graduate" to the bigger carseats? So the only drawback to getting the bigger one is that when the baby is smaller, I'll be carrying an extra 3 lbs of carseat weight in and out of the car. But, the advantage is that I think I will have a "bigger" baby, so if he is heavier than most or taller than most, he can chill in that carseat for a long time and not look like a freak of a child with arms and legs sprawling out of the smaller green one. Any thoughts? (please leave comments) Thanks.

To be honest, I am not sure I know what I am talking about, but here goes. If I remember correctly, Logan was around 7 or 8 months when we changed him to a bigger carseat. His legs were too long to be in the little baby carrier facing backwards. His legs were like scrunched against the seat and I heard that it isn't safe that way.So, I guess it probably doesn't matter which you get because there is a chance the baby WON'T be in that carrier for the whole first year. And I think the lighter the carseat to carry around, the better! Man, do they get awkward!

Avery is a long little one too, so I don't think she will be in the carrier for much longer either. She will be 6 months next week! She probably weighs around 14 or 15 pounds?

And on another note...Logan weighs barely over 30 pounds now and he is 3 years old. Hope that helps!

very good point she makes about the legs maybe being too long.. hmmm, I went for the super safe yet least expensive seats I could find... cosco. they work awesome, so I dont have any beefs to pick except for the price tag... honestly I've never heard of chicco.

totally right on with the age of moving up to a bigger seat. mine only sat in it for 7 months max and then they had to move to a non carrying kind. i would get the cutest one you like because everyone will see it at church, restaurants, etc. moms look at those almost as much as your baby!! so sad i know, but seriously. i love them both, but have never heard of chicco either. what does amazon.com say on their review section about them?

good luck, it's not an easy decision.

Not to confuse you or anything, but my first daughter was in her infant car seat for the entire first year. They say the baby should be 20 lbs or 1 year old to move to the bigger car seats. So, if your baby weighs 20 lbs before he turns 1 you'll want to change his car seat. Otherwise, it's safest to leave him in the infant carrier. I actually took a car seat class--ha ha. I'm a nerd!
